树坑的好坏对栽植质量与日后的生长发育有很大影响，因此要格外注意。树坑以圆柱形最好，以树干为圆心画圈，沿圈边向下垂直挖掘，直到达到规定深度，要保持上下垂直，大小一致，切忌挖成上大下小的锥形或锅底形，否则栽植踩实时会使根系劈裂、拳曲或上翘，造成不舒展而影响树木的生长。

挖坑时注意把表土与底土分开放置，并按相应位置回填。如果是坚实的上壤或建筑垃圾土则应该加大树坑的直径，并将坑底的土挖松;土质不好的应过筛或全部换土。在新填平与新堆土上挖坑时，应先在树坑附近适当夯实，挖好后的坑底也适当踩实，以防栽完浇水后土塌树斜。

栽植时，一人扶正苗木，一人填土，填一部分踩实一遍(若粘土不可重踩)，直到填满后再踩实一次，填好的土要与原根颈痕相平或略高3—5厘米。

栽后应立即灌水，无雨天不要超过一昼夜就应浇上头遍水。水一定要浇透，使土壤吸足水分，有助于根系与土壤密接，才能确保成活。
